Street light is a project for enlighten the life of street people mutually run by Kerala State Social Justice Department and Theruvoram (Ngo) in Kochi. By completing 150 days, after commencement of the project, Street Light Project saved the life of 122 people from the street. The project inauguration ceremony is done by Shri Oommen Chandy Chief Minister of Kerala on 15
th May 2013. Shri Dr. M.K Muneer Minister of Social Justice Dept of Kerala presided over the function. Street Light is the first project supported by the ministry in association with an Ngo in kerala for the welfare of street dwellers.
Rescued people from all categories like mentally retarded, Old age, handicapped people including children, women, and leprosy patients from the street of Cochin City. Murugan S Secretary of Theruvoram is co-ordinating the project in Cochin. There is a shelter home in Kakkanad near Collector ate for providing care for the inmates.
Currently Government is providing Rs750/- per month for an inmate in the shelter home for food expense Rs 7000/- for the take carer, Rs 4000/- for the transportation expense. Even though the financial support from Gvt is not completely cover the entire expenses, street light project is run by Theruvoram Ngo by rescuing as many people from street day and night. Cooperation from various institutions in the society like Kerala Police Dept also helping the project to make it is a big success!!!
Street Light project organized various cultural events in connection with Onam Eve, International Old age people Day etc. Wish the project will cross thousand in the coming days by rescuing people in Cochin city.
