A pavement dweller from the streets of Thrissur became the 1,000th inmate at the Government-NGO temporary shelter in Kakkanad. In July, social worker Murugan S., who runs the NGO Theruvoram, rescued Ramachandran with the support of the voluntary organization ACTS and the local police. Another pavement dweller Abu, who is mentally unstable, was also adopted from Thrissur on the same day.
